My adopted maternal grandmother, Ellen Powlay married John Moody at the Primitive Methodist Church, South Bank, Cleveland on 18 October 1905. Ellen’s father, Robert Powlay was born in Walpole St Peter, Norfolk and the line can, with some certainty, be traced back a couple of generations to a James Powley who was born at West Bilney, Norfolk. In all likelihood, James was a descendant of Peter Powlay & Pleasance Wild.
